Winter Solstice Songs
We are celebrating the Winter Solstice with a lantern parade on Thursday, 20 June, 4:30pm for a 5pm start.
Here are the songs we are learning to sing on the night, please practice them with your child/ren at home.
I Bring the Light
Winter is cold dark and long
My inner light burns warm and strong
In reverence for this winter’s night
To the dark I bring my light
Returning of the light
Honouring with our flame so bright
The Secret of the Fire
In the fire there’s a tiny little flame,
If you listen you can hear the name,
Of the glow, of the glow,
Oh, the secret of the fire I will know.
Oh, the secret of the fire I will know.
Round and Round We Go
Round and round we go
We hold each other’s hands
And weave our lives in a circle
The day is done
The dance goes on
Shortest Day Song
The shortest day, the longest night
Brings us together on this Winter’s night
The Earth spins round to make each day
We see the sun then we turn away
The tilt of the earth on its daily spin
changes the seasons that we’re in
The Earth has a path around the sun
that shares the light for everyone
* We'd like to thank Kael Veenstra-Young for introducing these songs to our school.
